      Arthur enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces on the 20th February 1915. He had a Medical Examination on ther 25th March 1915 and the Certificate states that Arthur George MARTYR was 20 years and six months old. He was 5 foot 10 and a half inches in height, weight - 154 lbs, chest measurement - 36/39 inches, complexion - fresh, eyes - blue, hair - light brown and religous denomination - Church of England, distintive marks - 4 vac left arm, scar resulting from operation for varecole left groin.

      Arthur was charged with neglect of duty on the 7th January 1917. (Neglect of Duty ie, being - Despatch Driver, failed to deliver despatches. Forfeits 3 days pay). He was also charged with disobedience on the 10th May 1918 for not wearing a jacket and on the 14th August 1918 he was deprived of 1 days pay for not being in posession of Identity Disk. He was hospitalized for diptheria and tonsillitis and served in Egypt. He received a Star Medal in 1921, a British War Medal and a Victory Medal in 1922.
